ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, would like to extend an invitation to you for the symposium ‘Transforming Science: Pathways Towards Sustainability and Trustworthiness’. The hybrid event will be hosted in Brussels at the Academy Palace by the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Belgium and the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts on 11-12 May 2022.

On this occasion, scientists, policymakers and professionals will come together to address how scientific institutions should transform to better react to abrupt crises like pandemics or climate change and to meet today’s societal expectations. Three main themes will drive the discussions: Science-Policy Relations in an Age of Complexity, Transforming Research Cultures and Climate Sustainability in the Academic System.

We are honoured to have among our speakers the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel and the President of the ERC Maria Leptin, as well as renowned academics such as Marion Koopmans, the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases at Erasmus MC. The full programme is available here, and will include networking opportunities and a reception.

It would be a great pleasure to welcome you in Brussels. We encourage you to register as soon as possible since seats for in-person attendance are limited. If for some reason you are not able to attend, feel free to share this invitation with a representative of your organisation.

We remain at your disposal for any questions or inquiries you may have.

With best wishes,

The ALLEA Secretariat
